Essential Tips for Driving in Morocco
Driving in Morocco is an adventure. A little preparation goes a long way to ensure a safe and enjoyable journey.
Road Conditions
Major highways (toll roads) are in excellent condition. City roads can be congested, while rural and mountain roads can be narrow and winding. Always drive defensively.
Rules & Regulations
Driving is on the right-hand side. Seat belts are mandatory. Speed limits are strictly enforced (60 km/h in cities, 100 km/h on national roads, 120 km/h on highways).
Fuel & Navigation
Gas stations are plentiful in cities and along highways. We recommend using Google Maps or Waze for navigation, but downloading offline maps is a wise precaution.

What documents do I need to rent a car in Morocco?
A valid driver's license from your home country (held for at least 1-2 years), your passport, and a credit card in the main driver's name for the security deposit are required. An International Driving Permit (IDP) is recommended but not always mandatory.
What is the minimum age to rent a car?
The minimum age is usually 21, though it can be higher for certain vehicle categories. Most companies apply a "young driver surcharge" for drivers under the age of 25.
Should I get full insurance?
We highly recommend opting for a full insurance package with zero excess (deductible) for complete peace of mind. This covers you for theft, and damage to the vehicle. It's often cheaper to book this online with us than at the rental desk.
Are one-way rentals possible in Morocco?
Yes, absolutely. One-way rentals are very popular. For example, you can pick up your car at Tangier Airport (TNG) and drop it off at Marrakech Airport (RAK). Simply enter your different pick-up and drop-off locations in our search widget.
Can I rent a car without a credit card?
Generally, no. A valid credit card in the name of the main driver is required by almost all rental companies to hold a security deposit. Some local suppliers might accept a large cash deposit, but this is rare and not guaranteed.
